CrimsonCard is going digital to enhance convenience and improve the overall campus experience. By integrating CrimsonCard into the Apple Wallet and Google Wallet apps, students, faculty, and staff can easily access campus services without needing a physical card. The digital CrimsonCard will provide seamless access to buildings, dining, printing, and more, all from a smartphone.
No. For security reasons, you can only have one active CrimsonCard at a time. Once you set up your digital CrimsonCard, your physical card will automatically stop working. If you need a replacement physical card after switching to digital, the cost is $35, and printing it will then deactivate your digital card.
If you’ve never had a CrimsonCard, you’ll be offered a digital CrimsonCard by default. However, a physical card can be obtained at any CrimsonCard office.
No, once you set up your digital CrimsonCard your physical card stops working. A replacement physical card will cost $35.
CrimsonCard in your Wallet (Apple Wallet or Google Wallet): This is your active digital ID. It allows you to tap and access buildings, services, and make purchases—just like the physical CrimsonCard.
CrimsonCard in IU Mobile: This is for viewing your CrimsonCard information (e.g., balance, card details) and managing your card, but it does not function as a tap-to-use ID. It does display the CrimsonCard barcode which is used for certain services around campus.
There are two ways find the card number needed for online transactions:
Option 1: Using the Wallet app
Open your digital CrimsonCard in your device's Wallet.
Apple Devices:Select the ⓘicon in the upper right corner. Android Devices:Select the⋮icon in the upper corner.
Your 16-digit ID# (beginning with 6012) will be displayed on this page.
Your 16-digit ID# will be displayed in thephysical or digital CrimsonCardtile.
Services that digital CrimsonCard currently does not support:
Some library services - uses the CrimsonCard barcode
Entry into sporting events - uses the CrimsonCard barcode
Bus (IU Bloomington transit) – IU Bloomington transit is implementing a new app solution to replace using the CrimsonCard.

Note: The barcode needed for the services above—excluding the IU Bloomington transit service—can be found in the IU Mobile app by selecting the “IU CrimsonCard” button (not the “Digital CrimsonCard” button).
No, your digital CrimsonCard is provided at no cost.
If you have never had a CrimsonCard, you are required to upload a photo and documentation verifying your identity on the IU Mobile app. Step-by-step instructions are available on the Apple and Android instructionpages.
Existing CrimsonCard holders: Your current photo can be used for your digital CrimsonCard, or you can upload a new photo.
CrimsonCard photos are valid for six years, and you will be required to upload a new photo upon expiration.
Those who lack compatible technology, are not eligible for the digital CrimsonCard, or prefer a physical card can obtain one at any CrimsonCard office.

Apple: Digital CrimsonCard FAQs
You can use your digital CrimsonCard on up to two devices (one iPhone and one Apple Watch) that are signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID.
To add the IU Digital ID card to Apple Wallet, a device passcode must be enabled. Face ID, Touch ID, or Optic ID may also be used if available. These security features help verify transactions and protect access to information in the Wallet app.
No! The digital CrimsonCard is configured in Express Mode by default. In Express Mode, you can approach the reader with a dark screen on your iPhone or Apple Watch without needing to authenticate via Face ID or Touch ID.
If you don’t want to use Express Mode, you can turn it off by going to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Select the CrimsonCard > Untoggle the Express Mode button.
Apple Wallet currently supports student IDs only in the United States. If your Apple ID region is set outside the U.S., the option to add your CrimsonCard may not appear. For iPhone or Apple Watch users, we recommend setting your Apple ID region to the United States.
Yes, if you have an iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, or more recent model. Express Mode with power reserve is available for up to five hours after the device's battery is depleted and needs to be charged.
This feature ensures you can still access campus buildings and make payments with your CrimsonCard even if your phone battery is low or temporarily dead.
Yes! Your digital CrimsonCard can be used even if your iPhone or Apple Watch does not have a cellular signal, as the digital CrimsonCard is stored on your device.

First remove your CrimsonCard from your old device by following these steps:
Open the IU Mobile app and select the digital CrimsonCard button.
Select the three dots located in the green status box.
Tap Unlink to remove the CrimsonCard from your Apple Wallet.
Then, follow the steps below to add your CrimsonCard to your new device(s):
Open and log in to the IU Mobile app.
Select the digital CrimsonCard button.
Tap the Add to Apple Wallet button and follow the prompts.
Select Done and your Crimsoncard will now be available in your Apple Wallet.

Your other device will continue to work; however, you should mark the missing device as lost on icloud.com and unlink your CrimsonCard from your missing device in the IU Mobile app.
Follow these steps to remove your CrimsonCard from your device:
Open the IU Mobile app and select the digital CrimsonCard button.
Select the three dots located in the green status box.
Tap Unlink to remove the CrimsonCard from your Apple Wallet.
Your CrimsonCash balance appears in two places: on the CrimsonCard preview in your Apple Wallet list and within the card details when you tap into it.
Android: Digital CrimsonCard FAQs
To use your digital CrimsonCard:
Your device does not need to be unlocked, but the screen should be awake.
Ensure NFC is turned on by going to your device’s Settings.
Android devices can vary in the placement of the NFC antenna.
Tap the top of the phone to the reader.
If this does not work, tap the back of the phone to the reader.
To access your digital CrimsonCard once you have added it to your Google Wallet:
Open the Google Wallet app
At the bottom, select Passes
Select your digital CrimsonCard
You can also find your digital CrimsonCard in your device settings.
Select Settings > Android Settings > Google > Settings for Google apps > Google Wallet.
No, you will need to ensure your phone is charged in order to utilize your digital CrimsonCard.
Your digital CrimsonCard can be used even if the Android device does not have network connectivity as your CrimsonCard is stored on your device.
You can use your digital CrimsonCard via Google Wallet on one Android phone device. Currently, the digital CrimsonCard is not yet supported on Android watches.
By default, your digital CrimsonCard can be used without unlocking your phone, but the phone must be powered on and “awake” (display active).
You can change this setting by turning on “require device unlock for use.“ This allows your digital CrimsonCard to be used only when the phone is unlocked by accessing your digital CrimsonCard in the Google Wallet.
If you have not enabled the “require device unlock for use” setting, you do not need to authenticate via passcode or fingerprint.

There is currently no functionality to display the CrimsonCash balance on Android devices that reside in the Google Wallet.
You can view your CrimsonCash balance on the IU Mobile app once signed in.
Follow these steps to remove your CrimsonCard from your device:
Open the IU Mobile app and select the digital CrimsonCard button.
Select the three dots located in the green status box.
Tap Unlink to remove the CrimsonCard from your Apple Wallet.

Ensure you are presenting your digital CrimsonCard properly to the reader —straight up and down typically works best.
When the digital CrimsonCard is set up, some systems can take up to 24 hours to receive the new credentials. You may need to wait for those updates to finish.
