Apple: Setting Up Your Digital CrimsonCard

The digital CrimsonCard is supported on the following Apple devices: 

Apple iPhone: iPhone SE, iPhone 6s Plus or later, running the latest version of iOS.

Apple Watch: Apple Watch Series 1 or later running the latest version of watchOS.

The digital CrimsonCard can be added to up to two Apple devices, including one iPhone and one Apple Watch, as long as both are signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID.  

 

**If your photo and documentation have already been approved, proceed to Step 2.**

Students attending Fall 2025 New Student Orientation must upload a photo and documentation verifying their identity (driver's license, passport, school ID etc.) that meets the requirements

Students attending a Transfer Orientation who already have a CrimsonCard can upload a new photo that meets the requirements or use their current photo file. 

How to upload your CrimsonCard photo and documentation verifying your identity: 

  1. Log in to your CrimsonCard account using your IU credentials.  
  2. Select Get a New Card in the navigation menu. 
  3. Select Browse to find and select your preferred headshot photo. 
  4. Select the Photo Requirements box to confirm it meets CrimsonCard photo requirements.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. To verify your identity, select Browse to find and select a photo of your driver's license, passport, military ID, state or school ID. Mask any sensitive information (SSN, driver's license number, etc.) before uploading. 
  7. Click Submit.
  8. An email will be sent to your university email once your photo has been reviewed informing you that your photo and documentation were either approved or denied.
    • If approved, proceed to step 2 to set up your digital CrimsonCard.
    • If denied, resubmit a photo and verification documentation that meets the requirements.

Instructions for Apple devices:  

  1. Ensure that you have an approved photo on file. If you are not sure, contact the CrimsonCard office at crimsoncard@iu.edu.
  2. Download the Cbord GET app (app with the black-and-white circular GET logo) on your mobile device.
  3. Select Indiana University in the school list.
  4. Log in to GET with your IU credentials and complete the Duo authentication.
  5. Create a PIN.
  6. Select the Add to Apple Wallet button and follow the prompts.
  7. Choose to add the digital CrimsonCard to your iPhone or Apple Watch.
    • You can add the ID to both device types by repeating steps 6-7.
  8. Agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  9. The ID will now be available in your Apple Wallet.

**If you have a physical CrimsonCard, it will be deactivated immediately when you set up your digital CrimsonCard.** 

Physical CrimsonCard is deactivated immediately
Once your digital CrimsonCard is added to your Apple Wallet, your physical card will be deactivated.

Building access is available in 15 minutes
Allow up to 15 minutes for your card to register in the building access system.

Elevator access can take up to 24 hours
Depending on the timing, access to elevators may take up to 24 hours.

Printing is available in 15 minutes
Your digital CrimsonCard will be active in the IU print system within 15 minutes.

Access your meal plan immediately
Once your digital CrimsonCard is activated, it can be used immediately to access your meal plan and dining dollars.

Using your digital CrimsonCard in Express Mode

The digital CrimsonCard features the “Express Mode” transaction experience. For digital CrimsonCard readers, a user can approach the reader with a dark screen on their iPhone or Apple Watch without needing to authenticate via Face ID or Touch ID.

If you don’t want to use Express Mode, you can turn it off by going to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Select the CrimsonCard > Untoggle the Express Mode button.

You can use your digital CrimsonCard on up to two devices (one iPhone and one Apple Watch) that are signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID.

Yes, if you have an iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, or more recent model. Express Mode with power reserve is available for up to five hours after the device's battery is depleted and needs to be charged. 

This feature ensures you can still access campus buildings and make payments with your CrimsonCard even if your phone battery is low or temporarily dead. 

 

Yes! Your digital CrimsonCard can be used even if your iPhone or Apple Watch does not have a cellular signal, as the digital CrimsonCard is stored on your device.

First remove your digital CrimsonCard from your old device in the Apple Wallet app by selecting: Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Campus ID issued by Indiana University > Remove Card. 

Then, follow the steps below to add your digital CrimsonCard to your new device(s):

  1. Download the GET app from the Apple app store.
  2. If needed, log in to GET with your IU credentials and complete the Duo authentication.
  3. If needed, create a PIN.
  4. Choose to add the digital CrimsonCard to your iPhone or Apple Watch.
    • You can add the ID to both device types by repeating step 4.
  5. Agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  6. The ID will now be available in your Wallet. 

If your Apple device is lost, use Find My iPhone to mark it as lost to protect your personal information. Instructions can be found here.

You can also: 

  • Call the CrimsonCard office at 317-274-0400 to request deactivation of your digital CrimsonCard.
  • Log in to your CrimsonCard account and Unlink your digital CrimsonCard from your mobile device.

To reactivate a lost device, use iCloud.com.  To link your digital CrimsonCard back to your mobile device, open the Get app, select the Add to Apple Wallet button, and follow the prompts.

Your other device will continue to work; however, you should mark the missing device as lost on icloud.com until it is found.
