CrimsonCard 101

CrimsonCard 101

CrimsonCard is the official photo ID for all IU campuses. It provides access to essential university services and can also be used to make purchases both on- and off-campus. It's quite literally your key to campus!

The process of getting your CrimsonCard - including submitting world's best, filter-free picture - is provided below along with additional details on other CrimsonCard features.

It's almost time to submit your CrimsonCard photo, but before you do, we'd like to propose a challenge. Most students submit at least two and sometimes three photos before receiving final approval. Think you can get approval on your very first photo?

Before you get too confident, know there are a lot of requirements (listed below) your photo must meet to get approval. Scan through these requirements, take your best photo, and click Submit Photo Here. In less than a week, you'll know if you conquered the challenge or need to submit another photo.

Photo Requirements:

  • Must be current (taken within the last 6 months)
  • Do not use any filters to alter the photo (resist the temptation)
  • Background must be SOLID, smooth, and white, light-colored, or gray
  • Must be passport-style: forward-facing, head and top of the shoulders in frame
  • No hats, sunglasses, headphones, scarves, etc. (Religious head coverings are permitted)
  • Color photos only
  • Photo must include only you - no pets, friends, props, etc. allowed.
  • Natural or neutral expression/smile
  • Photo must be a .jpg (or .jpeg) file format
  • 3 MB file size limit

The answer to this question is a moving target. As it currently stands, when the campus resumes normal activity, the CrimsonCard office will reopen and you can come to get your card. At this time, we are not sure when this will happen. We will stay in contact with you and let you know.

When the time does come, make sure to bring a government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport high school photo ID) so we can verify your identity.

Your CrimsonCard will be used to:

  • make purchases both on- and off-campus using CrimsonCash
  • gain secure entry to buildings and residence halls
  • access your meal plan

  • access sports and recreation facilities
  • check out library books

As a student you have a couple options:

1. Registration Bursar deposit - The Registration deposit is a convenient way to deposit $250, $500 or $750 (both $250 and $500) when registering for classes. The amount you select is billed to your bursar account and deposited to your CrimsonCash account 2 weeks before classes begin. The funds can be used to purchase textbooks, course materials, food, and other items anywhere CrimsonCard is accepted

2. Website Bursar deposit - You can make deposits in any amount, at any time from the CrimsonCard website. These deposits can be billed to your student bursar account or paid for using a debit/credit card. A $2.50 fee applies to all debit/credit card and Paypal deposits.

Deposits billed to your bursar account can be paid for using financial aid (requires a completed Title IV form), scholarships, grants, 529 funds, or any form of payment accepted by the Bursar Office. Please note, multiple deposits totaling no more than $1,750 per bursar term can be billed to your student bursar account. Other Terms and Conditions apply.

Anyone can make a deposit to your CrimsonCash account! To do so, they simply need to visit crimsoncard.iu.edu and click on Guest Deposit found in the middle of the homepage. They need to know your University ID number and your last name or user ID. A credit/debit card or Paypal can be used and a $2.50 fee will apply to each deposit.
